Meet Daunte ��

Our Texas spirit dog. Survivor. Professional couch-dog-in-training.

Daunte’s story could have ended very differently.

He came to us from Texas after being saved just hours before euthanasia — painfully thin, battling severe mange, heartworm positive and carrying the physical reminders of a life that had not been especially kind to him.

But Daunte apparently had other plans.

This boy is doing SO well. ❤️

Right now, he remains on medical hold while we continue treating his heartworm, healing his skin and helping him put some much-needed weight on that lanky frame. His treatment will continue for several more months, but every day we’re seeing a little more of the dog hiding underneath everything he survived.

And perhaps our favorite part?

Daunte is learning how to be a dog.

He’s learning that people can be safe.

That food shows up every day.

That soft places are meant for sleeping.

That attention can feel pretty darn good.

And that maybe — just maybe — life isn’t supposed to be about surviving all the time.

There is still a road ahead of him. Heartworm treatment isn’t quick, and we’re giving Daunte all the time his body needs to heal properly. But he continues to gain weight, feel better and show us more of himself along the way.

We’re hoping that toward the end of August, Daunte will be ready to begin looking for a foster-to-adopt home where he can continue his treatment while starting the next chapter of his life.

For now, his only job is to keep getting healthy.

Well… that and perfecting this whole spoiled-dog thing. We think he’s catching on quickly. ��

Daunte’s continued medical care is significant, and donations toward his treatment are greatly appreciated. Dogs like Daunte are exactly why we keep showing up for the difficult cases — because sometimes the dog who was almost out of time just needs someone to give him enough of it.

And this boy?
