Meet Dauber AKA Dauber Slobber AKA Dobs AKA Dobby AKA Dobster the Lobster
10-month-old Old English Sheepdog | Professional Fluffball | Personal Space Violator
Dauber is 10 months old, ridiculously fluffy, wonderfully goofy, and fully convinced that personal space is just a suggestion.
If you sit down, Dauber would like to sit with you.
On you.
Possibly across you.
He is a large dog with absolutely no understanding of his own dimensions — and we kind of love that about him.
Dauber came into rescue scared of just about everything, but this sweet guy has come SO far in his foster home. He continues to gain confidence every day and, once he feels safe, his lovable, silly personality starts coming out in full force.
He’s still a work in progress when it comes to a few things. Public places can feel overwhelming, car rides are still not on his list of favorite activities, and loud noises or sudden, unpredictable movements can make him nervous. Because of that, Dauber is looking for a home without children under 10.
His dream setup?
A large, securely fenced yard, patient people, a fairly predictable home environment, and someone who appreciates a leisurely stroll.
And we do mean leisurely.
Looking for a long distance running partner? Keep scrolling.
Dauber is more of a “we’ll get there when we get there” kind of guy, prefer to hike and take in the scenery kind of guy. A mile or two at a nice, easy pace sounds perfect. Sprinting? Maybe. Marathon training? He would like to unsubscribe.
Slow and steady is Dauber’s speed — both on walks and when it comes to earning his trust.
Before you fall in love with the fluff… do your breed research.
Old English Sheepdogs are wonderful dogs, but this breed is NOT for everyone. That gorgeous shaggy coat comes with significant grooming needs. Regular brushing, coat maintenance and professional grooming need to be part of the budget and routine — because all that fluff does not maintain itself.
It’s also important to understand what these dogs were bred to do. Old English Sheepdogs have a history as working dogs used for herding and driving livestock, along with strong watchdog and alerting instincts. They tend to notice what is happening around their home and let their people know about it.
For Dauber specifically, a household with people constantly coming and going, frequent visitors or lots of unpredictable activity probably isn't going to be his happy place. He is still building confidence, and a calmer, more predictable home will give him the opportunity to feel secure rather than feeling like he needs to keep track of Grand Central Station all day long.
Dauber needs someone who understands that confidence isn’t built overnight and who is willing to give him patience, consistency and time.
In return, you’ll get one giant, lovable, shaggy goofball who will eventually trust you enough to completely ignore every boundary you’ve ever had.
Because once Dauber decides you’re his person…
Congratulations. You now have a very large lap dog. ❤️
Dauber was neutered while in rescue. He is up to date on vacciantions including rabies, distemper, bordetella, and lepto, has been microchipped, and started on monthly prevenitons for flea/tick and heartworm. Please complete an application to welcome him home today!
