We are looking for a foster or forever home for Louie!
Louie arrived to B-Squad after receiving a plea from our local Humane Society of Louie needing immediate medical treatment for active seizures. Louie was rushed to the ER vet where we were successfully able to get his seizures to stop. He spent five days in the hospital while we adjusted his seizure medication to a level where they would be effective for Louie.
Louie has been attending training with Follow Me Dogs MN for the last several weeks working on impulse control, overall manners, leash walking, playing with dogs, and learning how to relax. The reality for Louie is that his seizures went mistreated for months where his brain suffered trauma with every episode. This has left Louie with some challenges in how his brain funtions and processes things. This lovable goof experiences what we would describe as a Ground Hog day most days. He makes progress, but can forget what he learned previous days and will require a structured home that can be consistant with his training and responses.
Louie would do best in a home where calm is reinforced from him. He should be crated when not on leash or tethered on place in the home until he learns boundaries — he is very prone to counter surfing. He has loved every dog he has met here - even my 11lb blind jack Russell. He adores every human he meets but ensuring the human is encouraging the right behaviors from him (petting a calm respectful dog as opposed to a jumping excited dog) is the most crucial.
His typical day could look like:
Potty break outside
(Sometimes a dog social outside)
Structured Walk (20-30min)
Place while breakfast gets ready
Eats breakfast in crate
Crate break until human gets home
Potty break / dog social outside
Structured Walk or treadmill (30 min)
Hang out with human on leash inside
Place while dinner is made
Eat dinner in crate
Place or leashed while human watches tv, relaxes, etc
Crate for bedtime
Louie should not be allowed on furniture to help with boundaries, and play should not be allowed inside.
With all of the challenges being listed above, Louie is truly a lovable goof. Everyone that meets him adores him, and he can provide hours of entertainment in his zest and joy for life. This good boy would love to find a home that can meet his needs and in turn he will love you with all he has.
- Patient, structured home to continue his training and encourage growth
- Physcially fenced in yard to keep him safe
- Resident dogs that are neutral or free loving that enjoy play.
- Financially able to provide monthly seizure meds for the rest of his life.
- Children aged 10+ only due to Louie's size and strength, he ADORES everyone
Continued support and training will be provided to any foster/adopter. BONUS: If an adopter/foster is within 100 miles of Priceton, MN 3 free 2 hr in home sessions will be provided by Folllow Me Dogs MN!
